Assessment Only

Are you an experienced unqualified teacher with a degree? Our Assessment Only route allows you to demonstrate that you already meet the Teachers’ Standards, without further training.

Completion of this course provides you with the following qualifications

Qualified Teacher Status

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is the legal requirement for teaching in England. Obtaining QTS with us will allow you to teach in maintained primary schools in England

What other criteria do I need to meet?

​To be eligible for our Assessment Only route, you must be:

  • in paid employment as an unqualified teacher, with a school willing to support you through our course

  • have been in employment as an unqualified teacher in at least two settings prior to your application. This will have involved planning, teaching and assessing whole classes in both schools.

  • have a minimum of two years’ teaching experience as an unqualified teacher across the age ranges within your chosen age phase.

  • have an enhanced DBS in place with the school in which you will be assessed

You must prove, through the interview process, both your suitability to teach and an ability to meet the standards for QTS without the need for any further training.

If you do not meet the entry requirements for the Assessment Only route, please consider one of our primary teacher training courses as an alternative.

Application Process

Step 1:

Initial Enquiry

Contact us to discuss your eligibility and the AO Route process. Complete a pre-application checklist to ensure programme eligibility.

Step 2:

Application Form

Complete our application form, providing details of your academic background and teaching experience. This also includes support from your current school confirming their commitment to the AO Route, and a reference from each of your employment schools.

Step 3:

Compliance Checks

All appropriate and relevant compliance checks will be completed prior to interview.

Step 4:

Visit & Interview

We will arrange a visit to observe your teaching and conduct an interview to discuss your experience and readiness for assessment. You will complete a subject knowledge audit and provide evidence towards meeting the Teachers’ Standards.

Programme Details

Duration

The Assessment Only process begins once you are registered on the programme and assessment is concluded at the end of a 12 week period, in your current employment school.

Assessment Process

There are two assessment points during the programme:​

  • Mid-point Assessment involving an observation and mentor meeting. The SCITT will review progress.

  • Final Assessment will include an observation, interview and presentation demonstrating your evidence of meeting the Teachers’ Standards.

Course Fees

Our course fees are set at £2200.

Please note that funding is not available from Student Finance England for this route. Course fees and any other associated costs must be covered by the applicant and/or employment school.
